The Directorate General for Communication (DG COMM) of the European Parliament has announced a call for grants for co-financing media communication activities dedicated to the European elections that will be held in the spring of 2024.
The competition is intended for media agencies, television companies, radio stations, digital and print media, and pan-European media associations, and is open until January 26, 2023.
The European Parliament, as the only EU institution whose members are directly elected by the citizens, will support media activities with a twofold goal of awarding grants.
- Provide regular, reliable, pluralistic, and unbiased information about the European elections in 2024 and the political and legislative work of the European Parliament and its influence on the everyday life of citizens.
- Promoting the participation and inclusion of citizens and civil society in the debate on the upcoming European elections by organizing events, public consultations, surveys, online activation, and the like.
The key criteria for the allocation of funds are: the expected reach, audience, and effect of communication activities, in terms of contribution to raising citizens’ awareness of the European Parliament and promoting a broad public debate on the EU and the European elections in 2024. Applications must contain expected results, defined and measurable objectives, and related performance indicators. Grantees will have full editorial freedom when creating content. The estimated time for implementation of communication activities for which co-financing is requested is at least 6 months, in the period from September 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024. The upper limit of co-financing by the European Parliament is 70%.
Applicants must have stable and sufficient sources of financing to maintain their activity during the entire implementation period and, if necessary, to participate in its financing. In particular, they should have an average turnover/income in the last two financial years of at least 100% of the total amount requested from the European Parliament.
Applications are submitted exclusively electronically on the portal for financing and tenders. More information on the procedure is available in the EU Funding & Tenders Portal Online Manual.
