He started writing in Studentski list and Omladinski tjednik, and later in Polet, which in 1976 had an enviable circulation and reputation. After returning from the army, he was employed by Vjesnik as an assistant editor of the very popular Nedjeljni Vjesnik. In 1983, he became the deputy editor-in-chief of the weekly newspaper Danas. He also worked in the Arena for a while, and then in 1990 he founded the weekly newspaper Globus, which was the basis for further development. With the founding of Europapress holding and the launch of the daily Jutarnji list, he became the largest Croatian media entrepreneur.
