There are more and more mentions of the possibility of changing Article 68 of the proposal of the new Electronic Media Act (ZEM), which should soon reach the second reading in the Croatian Parliament. This is a provision that does not allow telecom operators, which perform the activity of broadcasting audiovisual and/or radio programs, to be television and/or radio broadcasters at the same time. This provision also exists in the still current ZEM, now in Article 61. The biggest opponent of the abolition of this provision until recently was Nova TV. I remember the statement of Dražen Mavrić, the director of this television, at the Weekend media festival a few years ago, in which he pointed out as a threat the possibility for telecom operators to take the television business more seriously. Of course, at that time, the owner of Nova TV was not United Group (UG) but CME, and CME was not a telecom company.
