The Sudanese government has launched into a new confrontation with the media restricting their freedom.

Thus, it’s announced that four independent media outlets, two newspapers, and two television channels were closed. The offices of these media outlets are occupied by security services, and all employees had to leave the buildings. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) together with its member Sudanese Journalist Union (SJU), have condemned this act by the Sudanese authorities.

It all started when the Sudanese Anti-Corruption Committee announced the closure of all accounts and assets of al-Sudani, Al-Rai al-Aam, and satellite TV channels, Al-Shrooq and Tayba. According to reporters, this was done to study the accounts and identify the owners. The SJU, however, claims that the backdrop of everything is a violation of journalistic freedoms and the authorities’ desire to fully control the media. Recall, recently, the Sudanese authorities have decided to dissolve all unions in the country, including the journalist union – the SJU.
